Educational Aims

 

From the beginning, the teachers at Bifrost have developed a method of teaching with emphasis on:

 

Values:

Respect for the student as a unique and exceptional individual.

To teach in a professional and accountable way.

The work produced is to be seen as an artistic statement.

 

Aims:

That the student develops his/her own artistic potential.

That the student gains an insight into the history of art depending on interest and needs.

To develop the student’s understanding of the connection between theory and practice.

To develop the student’s theoretical and practical skills.

 

Teaching:

Differentiated teaching

We support the individual student in order to encourage the development of independent

artistic expression.

To set targets which are relevant for the student’s further development.

In the long term to enable the student to start relevant, self-motivated projects and thereafter

to be able to appraise the results critically and constructively.

To teach these main areas – drawing, painting, sculpture and graphics.

 

Methodology:

Based on developmental theory. Our starting point is the individual student.

The student’s weak and strong points are revealed after an in-depth introduction to the

various mediums.

 

Using experimental teaching, we work to break down some of the limitations the student feels

in order to introduce new insight to the student.

 

Working individually and in depth, the student is given support in order to develop and strengthen his/her skills within the area he/she prefers.

 

In respect for the student’s own way of expressing himself, we do not add anything to the student’s work ourselves, nor do we provide any specific suggestions as to how to complete the project. On the contrary, we highlight the problems each student may have from different angles in an all-round way so that the student will be able to decide for himself.

 

Promotion:

It is important for us that the students have the opportunity to exhibit their work

individually or in small groups. The students are involved as much as possible in selecting

and hanging their work, in the opening of any exhibition and in various kinds of marketing.

In addition, both the students and the teachers work together to find suitable exhibition

venues. The students are present at the exhibitions, ready to talk about their work and to

explain what lies behind their art. Bifrost takes 25% of the result of any sale to cover

the cost of materials.
